ALD 3.0 - Hiki No Video

The purpose of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act is that it criminalizes people who are spreading copyright work. Copyright infringement is when you violate the copyright's owners exclusive rights. The legal consequences of copyright infringement are that you have to pay the amount of damages and profits, they could take control of the illegal works and you could also go to jail etc. You can get permission for copyright material by asking permission for the work. Fair Use is when you copy a copyrighted material, but you have to change  it. Two examples of Fair Use that is legal is critiquing something or doing a parody.

It is essential to gain permission because you don't know if a location you wanna film could be private property.  Video Release Forms are forms that are asking for  permission for the people in their video to let the filmmaker use that content. Them signing the release form helps so that the filmmakers rights are protected.

ALD 6.0 - Practice Story

Safety is your number one priority during the production process because, you do not want to harm anyone your are working with including the actors or even the whole crew. One of the things you should be concerned about is the risk is make sure you are not doing time pressure, because that can cause accidents. Plus make sure that you are using the camera strap on the camera because you don't want to damage equipment that is very expensive and not yours. Lastly, be careful when you are filming but not paying attention to your surroundings.

ALD 5.0 - Interview Composition

The difference between a host shot is that its when someone is talking straight  to the camera or to an audience, but then a interview shot is when the person is talking to the person they are interviewing not to the camera. The background of an interview shot should be something that connects to what they are talking about but not distracting. You should never shoot a flat angle because it is not interesting, you should have a background that makes people interested. Look Room is the space where the person who's getting interviewed is looking.

I think that the most important thing about shooting a successful interview is make the interviewee comfortable. This is important because it will show the camera how the person is feeling while filming, because I think you can tell if someone is uncomfortable. To make them feel more comfortable you can make sure they can prepare about the topic your talking about. You can also make them feel comfortable by being kind, and not rushing the process.

ALD 4.0 - Editing Practice

Editing techniques can add to the story by making the video more entertaining and hook the viewer into the video. Most of the time cuts are supposed to have a smooth transition, but sometimes when you want to give a different feel to the viewer it doesn't have to be smooth. The role of natural sounds is that it advances the story because it's like the viewer is right there with you. When it comes to music and audio soundscape it can change the way you feel while watching it, like when you are at a happy part in a film you would put upbeat music, its like you can feel what they are feeling.

ALD 2.0 - Public Service Announcement

The impact that the PSA could have on an audience is that it could make someone more aware of the issue. I think that PSA's can make someone think differently, but not necessarily make them act different. I think that because it depends on how the PSA is made if its not something you are going to remember then maybe it won't be as impactful. I am hoping that the PSA will make people think twice about conserving energy and not just to make them think differently but also act differently. Our PSA is about conserving energy, they should care about this issue because it can affect them and others in the generations to come.

The organization hosting for our PSA topic is Hawaiian Electric, they are an organization with a goal to have 100% renewable energy by 2045. Which will help electric cost to go down and cleaner for other generations. The rules that should not be overlooked like the timing 30 seconds are less. Another rule that should be not overlooked is that the PSA should still be the same topic as your organization, it should also be turned in on time and not late. I think there is so many opportunities for media students because they want to recognize students who can get a message through media. I think that students get the most benefits because they are provided with things they can use for a future career.

The PSA did the evolve as much as the final video came out. We had no rough cut because we did not get the footage in time to critique it. I think that the critique results were better then I thought they would turn out, I thought maybe some things could improve like how to make it more impactful. The best compliment was about how we had good shots and nice music, which I can agree on.
